As the highly anticipated iPhone 5 launch approaches on the 21st of September, we take a moment to think about a life that, although now lost, was an extremely important part of Apple’s journey to where it is now.
Steve Jobs is hailed as one of the greatest innovators of our time, but much of that wouldn’t have been possible without the liver transplant he received in 2009.
At the age of 54 Jobs was fighting a long standing battle with cancer with his liver failing quickly, but he was lucky enough to receive a transplant and recovered quickly. While he was very private about his personal life, he soon became an outspoken ambassador for organ donation.
Since then, Jobs has influenced legislation on organ donation in California, and also Mark Zuckerberg’s implementation of the “Life Events” tool on Facebook that allows users to broadcast the date they became an organ donor.
